As any new mom can attest, keeping little ones clean, fed and entertained can be especially tricky when you’re on the move.

An organized – and appropriately stocked – diaper bag helps ensure that you have the tools you need to keep your baby comfortable and happy, wherever you are traveling or just trekking to the grocery store. Here are a few must-haves:

1. Diapers, of course!

This may seem like a no-brainer, but many a mom has laid her baby on the changing table only to discover that she didn’t pack enough diapers. Make sure to keep plenty of diapers on hand. Pack one for every hour you’ll be out, plus a couple of extras – better to have them and not need them than the alternative.

2. Baby Wipes

Baby wipes are a diaper bag must-have that serves many uses – they keep baby clean after changing diapers, keep your hands clean and can be used for wiping sticky faces and fingers, dirty surfaces and changing pads as well.

3. A Changing Pad

Many diaper bags come with changing pads inside. Changing pads make dealing with diapers a clean and comfortable experience wherever you are changing your baby – particularly if the back of your minivan doubles as a diaper-changing station. And even if you are somewhere that has a public changing table, you still want to use our own changing pad for a more sanitary experience.

4. Diaper Rash Cream

You never know when diaper rash could develop, and you don’t want your baby to be uncomfortable when you’re nowhere near home – and applying diaper rash cream as soon as it starts translates to a speedier recovery.

5. A Change of Clothing (or Two)

Accidents happen – diaper leaks, snack spills or baby spit up. Having a change of clothing is necessary to keep your little one clean and dry.
